The Whimsy Chronicles

Photography was one of our top priorities for our wedding (particularly for me), and we couldn't have been more delighted with our decision to go with Hannah Photography! We were enthralled from the moment we saw their shots, particularly some of their more unusual angles, and they way that they told a story with their work. This is far from the formal, stiff photos some of you might imagine when you think of the "traditional" wedding pics!

Who they are

Married couple Megan & Jacob Hannah are the lead photographers behind the biz. Jacob's always been a photojournalist, since receiving his degree from RIT (Rochester Institute of Techonology). His passion was evidently infectious, convincing his partner to join the business. Megan hails from Nebraska but fell head over heels for Vermont after Jacob convinced her to return to his roots. Yes, they even have chickens - how very Vermont! Together, they make an unstoppable team. While they will certainly cover the group shots and any specific images that you want, they excel at capturing the story of your day through candid moments highlighting the true connections and emotions of the day - from the tender to the exuberant!

Associate photographer Josh Kuckens rounds out the team. Like Jacob, he received his photojournalism degree from RIT. And his knack for narrative and documentary photography is a great fit.

The experience

Their work speaks for itself. But when picking a photographer (or two) for your wedding, it's much harder to know for sure what working with them will really be like. That matters! Particularly since you'll probably spend more time with them at the actual event than any other vendors. So what was it like working with Hannah Photography?

We were super impressed with our experience throughout the whole process - from smooth and professional onboarding, excellent communication in the lead up, going above and beyond on the day of, and then the final delivery process. Dave in particular was a little unsure how he would feel about being followed by a camera all day and concerned about feeling pose-y for some of our shots. But Megan and Jacob were really good at making us feel comfortable, as well as being unobtrusive for all the candids! And the final gallery really wowed us. If you want to prioritize and invest in photography for your celebration, we certainly can't recommend them enough.

In their own words: Megan Hannah

How would you describe your unique photographic style?

Our approach to wedding photography is documentary. Our goal is to always let our clients enjoy their day with as little interference from us as possible. We'll step in to help when it's time for portraits, but we really don't want your wedding day to end up feeling like a big photo shoot! For most of the day, we are present in the action, quietly capturing the moments that are unfolding naturally.

How does Josh's style compare to yours?

Josh's background in photojournalism makes him a perfect addition to our team! He shares our approach and we love having him as part of Hannah Photography.

What do you wish couples understood when booking a photographer or before their big day?

Every photographer has their own unique style and approach and has a clientele that is a perfect fit. Look at a lot of photographers and understand their style before booking them. Your friends and family may have recommendations based on who they've worked with in the past, but ultimately you have to have a photographer that is a good fit for you and your partner. Your photographer will spend a ton of time with you on your wedding day, so it's important that your personalities click too. Once you decide on a photographer, the best compliment you can give them is fully trusting them to "do their thing" on your wedding day.

Do you welcome all types of couples (genders, ethnicities, races, ages, etc.)?

Absolutely!!!

Aside from photography, what are some of your favorite things to do?

We are parents to twin daughters who will soon be off to kindergarten, so family time is a big part of our lives! We also love cycling and staying active outdoors - whether that's working in the garden or jumping into our local swimming hole. :)

What is your favorite local establishment?

We love our local general store and also frequent Mini Factory, one of our favorite new eateries in nearby Bristol.

Shout out! Who is one of your favorite vendors or venues that couples should check out?

We have so many "friendors" in this industry - it's hard to choose just one! We particularly love when we get to photograph a wedding alongside one of our favorite videographers, Joel Boucher of Align Film.

Your photographers will be there to capture you wedding experience, but what do you want that to be?! Are you looking for help or guidance on how to make your celebration truly reflect who you are as a couple?
