When Magpie Wedding featured our Snow White-inspired styled shoot at the enchanting Bill Miller's Castle, we couldn't wait to share more about the creative process that brought this fairytale vision to life. For couples dreaming of a wedding that blends storybook romance with a unique, immersive experience, this shoot is a glimpse into how we design events that are not just beautiful, but truly you.

The Inspiration: Whimsy, Wonder, and a World Made Right

After hearing about Disney's new live-action movie, Snow White seemed like a fabulous theme for a shoot. But we wanted to go beyond the expected (a princess in the woods, bright red apples) and instead, craft a world brimming with charm, playful magic, and heartfelt storytelling.

Inspired by castlecore aesthetics and the timeless allure of Snow White, we created a setting that felt like stepping into a story...one where love, adventure, and a touch of enchantment awaited at every turn. Stained glass, custom mirrors, and delicate woodland details set the scene, while an interactive puzzle experience added a delightful element of discovery.

And while this shoot honored a classic tale, our version leaned into the idea that modern fairytales don't require a prince to save the day. Strength, kindness, and magic live within us all, and that is a story worth celebrating.

The Process: Designing with Intention

Every event we design starts with a question: How should this feel? For this shoot, the answer was a blend of whimsical, immersive, and magical.

Designing a styled shoot is a different process than working with a real couple, where we dive deep into their history, values, and passions. However, we still anchored this experience in the emotions we wanted to evoke and the key elements from the Snow White story. Our goal? To inspire couples to embrace personalization and intentionality in their wedding design.

We started with the setting. Bill Miller's Castle was the perfect venue, with its grand stone walls, warm wooden beams, and old-world charm. This wasn't a distant, untouchable kingdom...it was a welcoming, magical space where stories could unfold.

From there, we layered in the physical design, choosing a color palette of softer pastel interpretations of classic Snow White hues, selecting textures and motifs that balanced old-world romance with fresh whimsy, and curating pieces that reflected both fantasy and reality.

Next, we collaborated with other vendors, inviting them to bring their unique skills, ideas, and creative energy into the mix.

Finally, as the vision took shape, we sourced and designed bespoke elements that made the shoot truly unique - infusing every detail with intention and artistry, ensuring cohesion with the venue, and crafting an atmosphere that felt both enchanting and inviting.

The Fashion: Fit for a Queen

Snow White has always been more than a damsel! She's kind, courageous, and radiantly unique. Our take on her style honored that strength and individuality, showcasing four breathtaking wedding dresses:

  • Juniper by Sottero & Midgley: An off-the-shoulder satin bridal gown in a shimmering French blue (that appears silver), with vintage-inspired puff sleeves, elegant front buttons, and a regal presence fit for a modern princess.
  • Zephyrine by Maggie Sottero: A strapless sweetheart gown with illusion beaded lace bodice, exposed boning, and colorful floral motifs over blush tulle...a romantic and ethereal masterpiece. We also had a stunning matching embroidered veil!
  • Charlotte by Wtoo: A dreamy strapless, basque-waist A-line wedding dress with a plunging illusion neckline, Caterina Lace details, and a lace-up corset back.
  • 8048 by Stella York: A true princess moment with a sparkling strapless tulle wedding gown, sheer ruched bodice with exposed corset boning, and glittering layers that catch the light with every movement. A fabulous basque waistline enhances its fairytale appeal.

Finishing touches included tiaras and sparkly heels, making our Snow White not just a princess, but a queen in her own right.

Enchanting Details: Magic in Every Moment

Every element of this shoot was carefully designed to evoke the essence of a modern fairytale, where tradition meets imagination. We wove together elements of woodland charm, intricate detailing, and a sense of wonder to create a setting that felt like a living story.

We collaborated closely with the florist and stationer to create a truly cohesive look. A delicate floral table meadow provided a fanciful space where woodland creatures could frolic, while the invitation suite featured a stained-glass-inspired floral design that was mirrored in the seating chart, tying elements together beautifully.

Our own custom details took the fairytale even further:

  • Personalized mirror place cards: Each guest's name was engraved alongside their portrait and the phrase "Be the YOU-est of them all", a nod to Snow White's mirror motif but with a modern, empowering twist. These unique favors would become keepsakes, reminding guests to celebrate their own magic.
  • Whimsical woodland creatures: Playful and kind-hearted, just like Snow White herself, these little critters peeked from behind florals and perched on signs, adding a sense of movement, nature, and unexpected delight.
  • Stained glass elements: Bringing in medieval and fairytale aesthetics, our stained-glass-inspired accents played with light and color, adding a playful yet elegant, bespoke touch to the day.
  • Subtle nods to lore: Metallic accents and hammered flatware subtly referenced the dwarves' mining roots, proving that even the smallest details can carry storytelling power.

Finishing touches included tiaras and sparkly heels, making our Snow White not just a princess, but a queen in her own right.

The Experience: an Immersive Celebration to Surprise and Captivate

We believe weddings should be felt, rather than simply observed, drawing participants into the story. That's why we created an interactive experience woven into this shoot, where unexpected delights and discoveries brought the magic to life.

  • A hidden message appeared on a mirror, leading to a scroll concealed below.
  • The scroll revealed a secret using disappearing ink, just like a fairytale spell!
  • A seemingly ordinary mirror suddenly came to life, sharing an enchanted message.
  • And still, the adventure continues! Curiosity is its own reward, so follow it...a puzzle was woven into the details, just waiting for someone like you to uncover it. The joy of solving is its own reward, but there's more: crack the code, and you can enter our giveaway for an Inspired Ideas Intensive, where we'll help you dream up a wedding that feels perfectly, unforgettably you.
